Lady Gaga: The New Billboard

Okay, before you all start bagging me out for being a subjective bitch, let me first say this hub is not a rant on how Lady Gaga is a dirty slut who promotes the sexualisation of women. I'm not going to express disgust at her sexual orientation - personally I don't care. So if you were looking for a hub bagging girls being sexy on TV, go look somewhere else.

I'm talking about the music industry and how Lady Gaga is just one demonstration of how it is slowly becoming desecrated by advertising.

Here's a bit of background on Miss 'Gaga'. Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta has been musically inclined since the age of 4, playing piano and singing, writing her first ballad at 13 and continuing to perform at open mic-nights. She attended the Tisch School of Arts in New York and was considered as a 'studious student' in school. She is actually a very talented artist and is brilliant when it's just her on the piano, fully clothed and singing. I've seen it - it's quality music.

No, Stefani sold her music career for the money and the fame. She became a businesswoman. She tries to appear individualistic, using her 'bi-sexual' orientation and crazy fashion exploits to her advantage as a quirky identity trait. Make no mistake she is deliberately creating this image of herself. The drawn out videos that advertise almost every major consumer product (coke, virgin mobile etc.) under the sun, her sexual film clips and poppy, catchy shit that is apparently music is all one massive advertisement.

Seeing as film clips are advertisements in general, it works out pretty well. But Lady Gaga goes above and beyond. Her lyrics catch us because we go "did she just say she wants to take a ride on a disco stick?". The basic tunes are repetitive and get stuck in your head. Her on-screen soft porn plays on innate human desires - whether we want to or not, we can't help but look away from the strange half naked woman on TV. Her crazy fashion is carefully created to make us go "wow, she's so daring and liberated! She's definitely someone to be admired for being so creative and individual!"... Because she's so different compared to Rhianna, Beyonce, Madonna and all the rest of those filthy rich pop-stars who wear weird clothing that the average person could never pull off.

This 'bi-sexual' orientation has become a massive fad in western society. It started when the 'emo' fad started and has slowly melding into acceptable society. I'm not saying bi-sexuality is a bad thing, however it would be naive not to acknowledge that it is highly influenced by societal trends and sexual fantasy. Lady Gaga's declaration of 'liking girls' is no different to Katie Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" or the Veronicas song with lyrics "I want to kiss a girl, I want to kiss a boy."

Lady Gaga threw away her musical dignity the moment she signed that contract with music producer Rob Fusari - the man behind the magic of Gaga Studios.

'Musicians' like Lagy Gaga are the type of people who like to take a shit on the hard-working quality musicians by stealing the limelight with raw advertising through all these methods listed. And have no doubt she will continue to become more outrageous and ridiculous simply to keep her consumers watching. Unfortunately, she is competition to every artist - greatly. So what are they going to do?

They're going to try some of her methods of course. Say bye bye to an appreciation of music, children, and hello to a music industry that flaunts sex, money and consumer products to make you buy their shit.

Cherish the real musicians in the industry who are in it for the music, not the money.
